It’s tempting to think of newsletters and e-mail marketing the same way as you think of personal e-mail. But it’s essential to give your e-mail or newsletter marketing campaign some thought and planning so that you keep and grow your list of subscribers. Here are 5 ways to make your e-mail or newsletter work for your business:
Make a great title
This alone will make or break your campaigns. The title is what a client or customer looks at first. Try to stay away from exclamation points and big claims since spammers tend to use those. Use a short, interesting title targeted to your customers and what they want or need.
Be Useful
The best e-mail and newsletter campaigns build good relationships. So follow up with your customers by providing useful, relevant information without hard selling all the time. Keep in mind, you have access to their e-mail address because they opted to share it. Don’t abuse the privilege.
Keep it Simple
Don’t load your emails with heavy graphics or fancy fonts. Stay clean and professional, and keep the layout simple to understand. This goes for the content, too—don’t use pages and pages of words when a bulleted list will do.
Divide and Conquer
The more personal an e-mail is, the more likely someone is to open it. Get as much information as you can about your customers and divide your list into groups. Then you can be even better at sending out information that is targeted to each group instead of general information that may not be of interest to everyone.
Give Them Something to Do
Every e-mail should end with some sort of call to action, whether it be to visit your website or make a purchase. Make sure to include contact information for any questions.
